Abhi: Sonam was a revelation

After the runaway success of Dostana, Abhishek is back in one of the most anticipated releases of the year, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6.

Although it’s set in Delhi, just as Rakeysh’s previous mega hit Rang De Basanti was, it’s not only about the city. “Delhi 6 is a story about India. If it was set in any other Indian city, it would have had the same charm. I play a guy from New York who comes to India and discovers it,” says Abhishek.

Starring opposite Abhishek is the still-new-on-the-scene Sonam Kapoor. “Sonam was a revelation,” says Abhishek, “She’s a wonderful person and actress. She brings a fresh feel to the film. I’ve known her for a long time. She’s a great co-artiste too.”

Abhishek says Rakeysh and he were always looking for an opportunity to work together. “We were waiting for the right script,” he adds.

Then there’s Mani Ratnam, with whom Abhishek has done two films — Yuva and Guru — and has another, Ravana, in the making. Does he like working with the director? “I don’t work with Mani Ratnam; Mani Ratnam works with me,” he says as a matter-of-fact.

Rumour has it that there will be a follow-up to Drona, but Abhishek clarifies, “There is no sequel.” But he won’t say as much about the Feroz Nadiadwala-Rob Cohen Hollywood venture that his father is supposed to be part of. “Talks are still on,” is all he’ll say.

What about Aishwarya’s role in Pink Panther 2? “She was fantastic. It wasn’t just about getting a Hollywood break but about doing a movie in another language,” he says. As for whether he’s looking to head to LA, he says, “I’m happy doing good movies here. If something comes along, I’ll do it.”

So, how big a fan or critic is Ash of his films? “I always ask my family for their opinion. They give their honest views and I take them,” says Abhishek.

When asked what he feels about his marriage to Ash being followed so closely, he says, “We are public figures. It’s natural to be in the news and I’m okay with it.” Who is his fave B-town actress? “I’m married to my favourite actress,” he signs off.

Madly-in-love Married Couples

Here's celebrating wedded couples who have been together forever but still look like madly-in-love sweethearts. From Gauri and Shah Rukh to Arjun and Mehr and Arbaaz and Malaika, we take a look at them all.

Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan: They have been married since 1991, even before SRK became the superstar he is. Gauri is his anchor, someone who keeps him grounded and she has stuck with him through thick and thin. Their children Aryan and Suhana are being raised to follow Hinduism and Islam. Gauri maintains a low profile; she produces his movies and hosts his parties but doesn't accompany SRK to every second event. She is one of the warmest, most stylish and most hospitable wives in B-town. Together they make a couple that completes each other.

Hrithik and Susanne Roshan: Ah, young love. Hrithik and Susanne are childhood sweethearts. Apparently, he decided to marry her at the age of twelve and finally married her after he became a superstar and became an interior designer. Like SRK and Gauri, this is another interfaith marriage. They have two young sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan. With his Greek God looks and her delicate beauty and grace, they are one of the most beautiful couples in Bollywood.

Arjun and Mehr Rampal: They were both supermodels at the top of their game so being attracted to each other was only expected. Mehr and Arjun are usually seen hand-in-hand at concerts, premieres and parties. The perfectly paired couple have two daughters, Maahika and Myra. Mehr is Arjun's biggest fan; her prayers and love have helped Arjun go from Bollywood struggler to Bollywood biggie. Their compatibility is amazing.

Twinkle and Akshay Kumar: We all know what a playboy Akshay Kumar was before he got married. Twinkle Khanna tamed him and got him to commit to her. They have one young son, Aarav. Akshay may be a superstar today but when Twinkle married him, he wasn't. She keeps him grounded through success and failure. The interior designer with an elite clientele is one of the most stylish and gorgeous star wives in B-town.

Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan: Bollywood newest couple (they married in April, 2006) is totally in love. Ash and Abhi are hand-in-hand wherever they go and the newlyweds have eyes only for each other. Luckily for them, they are even doing films together, so they get a chance to mix business with pleasure. We can't wait to hear when the stork will visit this perfect-for-each-other twosome.

Arbaaz and Malaika Khan: This is one of the strongest marriages in B-Town in spite of the wife being more popular than the husband. They have a school-going son, Arhaan and are extremely supportive and secure about each other's career choices. Arbaaz and Malaika have been married for ten years but looking at them, you wouldn't be able to tell because they are still so smitten by each other.

Happy Birthday, AB baby!

Junior Bachchan turns 33 today. We take a look at his Bollywood journey over the years.

Abhishek was born on February 5, 1976. He attended Bombay Scottish and Jamnabai School in Mumbai before going to Switzerland's prestigious Aiglon College. From the Swiss Alps, he moved to Boston University but left his education mid-way to pursue a career in acting and help his father with ABCL which was in the doldrums

Abhishek debuted alongside Kareena Kapoor in JP Dutta's Refugee in 2000. The film flopped but Abhishek's performance was appreciated. Many more flops like Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai, Mein Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, Kuch Na Kaho and Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost followed though Abhishek had developed quite a fan following by then. Zameen in which he co-starred with Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu was a decent success.
2004 was the year that changed the shape of Abhishek's dwindling career. He won accolades for his performance as a misguided uneducated young man and his crackling chemistry with Rani Mukerji in Mani Ratnam's Yuva. Then came the blockbuster Dhoom in which he played a tough cop opposite John's biker bad boy character. Abhishek's sensitive performance of a lawyer in Phir Milenge was appreciated and his item, One Love in Rakht became a smash hit. RGV's Naach didn't do anything of his career as people thought it was too advanced for its time.

2005 was another successful year for AB Jr. and strengthened his position as a bankable and sensitive actor. There was comic caper Bunty aur Babli with Rani Mukerji, followed by the powerful Sarkar with Senior AB and the very entertaining Bluffmaster with Priyanka Chopra. He also made several special appearances that year.

Bachchan had 3 releases in 2006, out of which Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna which teamed him with his father and Rani Mukerji yet again and action flick Dhoom 2 in which he shared screen space with Bipasha, Aishwarya and Hrithik were super hits. Umrao Jaan flopped but Guru was another breakthrough performance in his career. He had matured immensely as an actor and shared some sparkling chemistry with fiancée Aishwarya on screen. Mani Ratnam's film was a commercial success too. Jhoom Barabar Jhoom flopped while Shootout at Lokhandwala in which he had a special appearance was a big hit.

He had three big releases last year. People thought he was too fat to play a super hero as a result of which the loosely directed special effects adventure Drona bombed at the BO. Sarkar Raj which teamed him with his Bachchan Senior and wife Ash was an average success. Dostana in which he played a gay character with aplomb and displayed some fantastic comic timing and chemistry with John Abraham was a smashing success.

Abhishek has won 3 Filmfare awards in his career and he and John recently won the Star Screen award for Best on Screen Jodi for Dostana. He is known as an intense, brooding, layered and sensitive actor who is very good at comedy as well.

On the personal front, Abhishek got engaged to Karisma Kapoor in 2002 but the engagement was called off in 2003. He was linked to a series of actresses like Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji and Dipannita Sharma but he strongly denied these rumours. He began dating his Dhoom 2 co-star Aishwarya Rai in early 2006 and the two got married on April 20, 2007. They are fondly referred to as 'AbhiAsh'

Abhishek is currently filming for Mani Ratnam's Raavan with wife Ash. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6 is his next release in which Sonam Kapoor is his co-star. We wish him a very Happy Birthday and many joyful and successful years to come.

What this year holds for AB Baby and Raima Sen and Arbaaz Khan promote Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye on Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano

What the Future Holds: Astrologer and numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts that Abhi will have a successful 2009.
"2009 will be a satisfying year for junior B. Born on 5th Feb. 1976; Abhishek is a No.5 in numerology, ruled by No.5, 8 and 3. Delhi 6 adds to 6 which is one of his strong numbers and Raavan which adds up to 7 will also do well. Abhishek will also see his family life (maybe even fatherhood) improve because of numbers 2 and 7," says Bhavikk.

Pretty in Purple: Raima Sen looks pretty and glamorous in this fitted mauve dress and black sandals. Where is Randeep Hooda, the man of her dreams (on screen)?

All Smiles: Arbaaz Khan with Mahesh Manjrekar, Yash Tonk and Gulshan Grover

Mujhe Pehchano: Mandira Bedi, Mona Singh and Rakhi Sawant

I am the King: That's what the expression on Shiney's face says and thankfully, he isn't wearing his usual jackets.

B'wood jazzes up the Pink Panther 2 Premiere in NY

Amitabh braved the snowstorms to be by Abhishek and Aishwarya's side at the Pink Panther 2 premiere in New York. Anil Kapoor walked the red carpet too - looks like all the Slumdog bashing has been forgotten. But we can't help but ask where is mummy Jaya?

Threesome: Aishwarya with hubby Abhi and Pa Amitabh. Don't they miss Jaya Bachchan?

Haath Na Chhodo: As usual, the madly-in-love couple is hand-in-hand. Looks like Abhi is dragging Ash off the pink carpet

Beauty in Black: Ash sparkles in her black gown which shows off her ample assets

Millionaire Man: Anil Kapoor is basking in the Slumdog Millionaire glory and the international media can't get enough of him.

Abhi wants family on birthday

Given a choice here’s how Abhishek would like to spend his birthday. “Quietly, with family.

There’s nothing in the world I’d want more. Any day when all of us can be together is like a birthday treat.” Abhishek’s in New York and Pa Amitabh and Ma Jaya almost didn’t make it for his birthday! “They were stranded in London due to heavy snowfall. I was hoping the entire family would be present, weather permitting. I bit my nails when dad and mom were stranded. I could think of no better birthday present than them joining me and Aishwarya in New York. And they finally arrived! Birthdays have always been a family affair for us and I hoped it would be the same this year too,” says Abhishek.

At 33, Abhishek continues to be the brat of the Bachchan clan. “33! Wow, I’m growing up. I don’t think much on my birthday. It’s like any other day of the year. But you get loads of presents, so that’s what makes birthdays special.”
He isn’t telling, but wife Aishwarya has a big surprise planned for him in New York. “For me, my parents joining us is the big birthday gift. Everything else is a bonus.”

Abhishek is looking forward to a fruitful year ahead. “I have some great releases lined up. Well, at least I think they’re great. I have to work extra hard to make sure the audience feels the same way too. Both films are very special and important to me. So I hope they turn out the way I’ve imagined.”
And what is the one birthday gift he would like? “Something tangible? Hmmm... I’m not big on asking for presents. Well since Delhi 6 releases soon after my birthday I guess I could ask the audiences to make it a huge hit for me. That would be an awesome present from them!”

51 pickles for AB

What do you gift a guy who has everything? That was probably the question on Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s mind when the director was thinking of a gift for Abhishek Bachchan whose birthday is tomorrow.

He then came up with the unique idea of gifting the actor 51 different kinds of pickles! Why pickles? “During the making of Delhi 6, I realised that Abhishek has a taste for Indian food. He used to gorge on local delicacies.

That’s how this came to my mind,” explains Mehra, who ordered the pickles from Khadi Bauli, India’s biggest achaar market. “They will be packed in traditional earthen pots and sent to him,” adds Mehra.

Abhi on a weight loss spree

Raavan happens to be Abhishek Bachchan’s third movie with Mani Ratnam. And the actor seems to go that extra mile for the moviemaker everytime.

In both Yuva and Guru, he worked hard to achieve the perfect look for the character. Abhishek’s role in the films was quite appreciated, so we guess all that work did pay off.

And now, the actor is at it again. For his role in Raavan, Abhishek is on a strict diet and has been travelling, shooting for the movie, along with a personal trainer, Sameer Jora.

A source tells us, “Abhishek is on a no carb diet. And he’s made sure that if he won’t have carbs then other people in the unit won’t either. So he doesn’t let anyone have any sweets. But, he did eat a ladoo on the sly once.”

Mani Ratnam's Ash-Abhi film is not based on Ramayana

Contrary to reports, Mani Ratnam's much-talked about film "Ravan", starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, is not based on the epic "Ramayana", said a source.

"The film has nothing to do with the epic 'Ramayana'. It's an urban story," the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Ratnam is trying to keep the story under wraps and is taking precautions while shooting. First he shot the film in the jungles of Kochi and now he is stationed in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

Ash has acted in the movie, co-starring Steve Martin.

The family is looking forward to this trip to New York as they will be able to spend quality time with each other, especially since their shooting schedules have kept them busy and away from each other.

Bollywood biggies' look revealed

It's known that Director Mani Ratnam is maintaining tight security on the sets of his upcoming film RAVANA and also lots of secrecy so as to not reveal the star cast - Aishwarya Rai & Abhishek Bachchan's look in the film.

It seems like now our longtime inquisitiveness about the look of the star cast in RAVANA is fulfilled. Recently Abhishek was spotted along with wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in his new short hair look at one of the events.

It is being said that this could be Abhishek's look in the film.

Seems like short hair is the new demand of the tinsel fashion. A few days back even Shah Rukh was seen sporting shorthair look which as per the reports Shah Rukh will be seen sporting in Kjo's upcoming MY NAME IS KHAN.

Also, the cutest hunk of Bollywood, Shahid Kapoor, who has been keeping away from the media glare and maintaining a relatively low profile for quite sometime now, is sported in a very trendy new hairdo. Recently, he made an appearance in one of the events with his new look and it is being held that this could be his much touted look in the film KAMINAY.

Abhishek's new haircut

Abhishek Bachchan was spotted with a new look last weekend -- one, that reminded us of Aamir Khan's Ghajini look.

The actor and his star wife Aishwarya Rai [Images] Bachchan are starring opposite each other in Mani Ratnam's Ravan, and this is rumoured to be Abhishek's look for the film.

'Bollywood 2009" predicts numerologist Niraj Mancchanda

Numeroloigst Niraj Mancchanda gives us his predictions for some of the biggest stars in Bollywood for 2009 including Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan. According to Niraj, 2009 is going to be Aamir's year! Read on to find out what is in store for your favorite stars!

Hrithik Roshan will be loved in Kites. First three days of the movie's opening will be phenomenal. Hrithik should consider adding the letter 'c' in his name so it spells Hrithick Roshan. This will help him avoid accidents and injuries. His name presently comes to number 43, same as Amitabh Bachchan and we all know that Big B has also had health issues.

Niraj goes on to say that Harman Baweja will be appreciated in Victory, Abhishek Bachchan will be loved in Delhi 6 and Ranbir Kapoor's first hit movie will likely be Rajniti. Apart from these three films, their other releases are not expected to do so well at the box office. He recommends that Harman spell his name as Harrmann Bawejaa. However, if he has decided to stick to the original spelling, and added S in middle (S for Singh, as he is Sikh) Harman S Baweja, this will help him succeed to some extent. As for the other two, Abhishek should use his father's initial and be Abhishek A Bachchan and Ranbir should spell his name as Raanbir or Raanbier Kapoor which should come as good luck in their career growth. If they decide to stick to their original spellings, their career could always be cyclic with huge variables of more flops than hits.

Shah Rukh Khan has two films in 2009 (Billoo Barber and My Name Is Khan). It's a money making year for Shah Rukh as 2009=11=1+1=2 and his number is also 2.

Salman Khan is not going through a good phase as many of his films bombed at the box office in 2008 and many more are expected to in the coming year. He should get the titles of his films strong according to their numerological values. As it is now, most of the titles of his films releasing in 2009 come to unlucky numbers. Katrina Kaif is a very lucky girl for others. However, her string of flops have begun from Yuvvraaj and she will have many more in 2009. Katrina's luck will not be able to neutralise Salman's low phase in 2009.

Kareena Kapoor's number is 3. In 2009, she will have 2 hit movies (3 Idiots and Kambakkth Ishq) but will not get much credit for these films like she got for Jab We Met. Aamir Khan will likely take away all the credit for 3 Idiots and many others will be mentioned for Kambakkth Ishq. It's a good year for her as far as success is concerned but not credit. For the credit, she will have to wait for 2010. If Kareena decides to spell her name as Karrinaa Kapoor, it will make her number 42 (same as Shah Rukh) and this should give her enough luck to churn out ten more Jab We Mets, in terms of success and full credit on her shoulders.

Akshay Kumar's destiny number is 5 which is derived by adding the full date of birth. He turned 41 and so the number 5 has been activated again. His luck has now become cyclic. At this age, he had a hit Welcome and then a flop Tashan and then Singh is Kinng did huge business but entailed losses to many distributors in India due to its high Cost. His next, Chandni Chowk to China, will open well but again, due to its cost, it will entail losses to Warner Brothers or at maximum, manage to recoupe its cost. His only hit in 2009 will be Kambakkth Ishq, which has the same number numerologically as Maine Pyar Kiya and numerologically titled by me. The entire credit for the film's success will go to the lucky producer Sajid Nadiadwala, director Sabbir Khan and Sylester Stallone, and not surprisingly, Aanuu Mallik is expected to start a new cycle, which will take his career to another level. Furthermore, the 100 Crore Blue will be released, which comes to same numerological number as Dil Se, so I do not even have to say its box office merit. According to numbers, he will have many flops after Blue but in 2010, Akshay will once again bounce back to giving many hits but his rollercoaster of hits and flops will continue.

2009 belongs to Aamir Khan. 3 Idiots comes to the same number as Devdas; his wife Kiran's movie Dhobi Ghaat comes to number of Maine Pyar Kiya and his other home production, Delhi Belly which stars his nephew Imran Khan, comes to the same number as Chak De India. Aamir is born on 14/03/1965 = 1+4+3+1+9+6+5 = 29 = 2+9 = 11 = 1+1 = 2 which is his destiny number. Year 2009 is also number 2 and Aamir also completes 20 years of his career as an actor. Therefore, number 2 (his destiny number) will make it the biggest year of his career!

It will be interesting to see how close his predictions come and we do wish luck to the all the unlucky numbered stars of 2009!

2009 to be Abhishek Bachchan's year!

Year 2008 may not go down as a memorable one for Bachchan junior, what with his DRONA being declared a box office disaster and his destined to succeed SARKAR RAJ proving to be an average show. The only silver lining was Karan Johar's Tarun Mansukhani directed DOSTANA, which has done very well at the turnstile. With DOSTANA inching towards an above average status from India (already a super–hit in the Overseas) good luck seems to be back in Abhishek Bachchan's life. And it appears from the superb promos of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's DILLI 6 that lady luck is here to stay with Ab's Baby for a while.

Yes, the promos of DILLI 6 (or DELHI 6?) are out on all leading satellite channels and portals and going by the response that it has generated, it appears that Abhishek has another winner on hand. Music maestro A.R. Rahman's lilting background musical score on the harmonica and ghatam enthralls the senses and once again expectations surmount that Rahman will create magic, just like he did with RANG DE BASANTI. Sonam's pretty, innocent looks, Abhishek Bachchan's brooding, intense visuals and the historic old Delhi, all conjure up a beautiful picture and build up the audience's curiosity.

Looks like Rakeysh is continuing from where he left off in RDB. And in the process we feel that 2009 may well be Abhishek's year, especially now that Mani Ratnam's RAVANA is progressing at a brisk pace towards completion and Rohan Sippy's next with Abhishek is on the anvil from January!

Dilli 6 unveiled at the Dubai International Film Festival

One can confidently say that the Indian cinema has definitely left a mark at the ongoing Dubai International Film Festival, which ends on December 17, 2008. The festival saw the unveiling of first look of the highly anticipated film Dilli 6, which is jointly produced by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra Productions and UTV Motion Pictures.

The first look of the film was unveiled before the big daddies of entertainment around the world. One also saw the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and UTV's head honcho Siddharth Roy Kapoor, at the festival.

Following the screening was an interactive Q and A round, comprising of the director with the rest of starcast and a vast audience. During this interaction, Rakeysh spoke about his key influences and the theme of the film, while the film's actors described their experience of working with Rakyesh.

All in all, the excitement and the curiosity of the audiences regarding Dilli 6 has now reached a different level altogether.
