SRK: I am becoming narcissistic!

No other actor is Bollywood has the amount of dedication and energy that Shah Rukh Khan possesses. The actor, who is due for surgery soon, attended four functions back-to-back in order to promote the film Billu. In fact, he was so busy that he had no time to attend his good friend Farah Khan's birthday party for her triplets.

Getting down to business, King Khan narrated the synopsis of his latest film first at a press conference. He said, “There is a saying that goes ‘east is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet’. What we wanted to ask is ‘can the twain meet?’ Whether this is possible or not, that’s what the film is centered around. Billu and Bindya are played by Irrfan and Lara respectively. An alien played by me then enters their lives.”

You started a portal called srkworld .com. Do you think that it is the right time to revive it?
I would actually like to because I want to start a site related to me. That and I am becoming more narcissistic by the day. Everywhere, there should be me and no one else! After my surgery is done with, I will get started on this.

You do a lot of promotions for you films through brands. How does this association help your film?
It’s all about give and take. If the film fits into the category of an existing product or one which is going to be launched then media buyers and media sellers will associate that product with the film and both are promoted. For example, Om Shanti Om fits a musical product while Billu suits earthy products- hence plywood.

We heard that you edited two of your scenes so that the focus would be on Irrfan Khan?
We have reedited some scenes- eight to be specific. We felt that the length of the film was too much. If you’re saying the same thing in two scenes then it doesn’t make sense to keep both of them. Editing was not done to promote any actor. It happens with all films. It is called postproduction. The media, however, likes to put its own spin on things.

What’s your take on blogging?
It’s a very connective and vast medium where you can share your thoughts- many stars are into it and it is all very well written. But I think that for me, the media conveys 90% of my thoughts. So what would I write about if I started? I don’t want to talk about my films or where I am shooting. Rather, when I start my portal I will talk about nature and human beings. I would like to talk to the youth and tell them that anything is possible if you work hard.

The word ‘barber’ had to be removed from the title of your film. Do you think it is fair?
Life is not about being fair or unfair. I make films for people. The audience should like it. I have made films which have hurt a few elderly stars and I have personally said sorry to them because it was not intentional. With Billu, the barber’s union told me very emotionally that the Hindi translation of the word ‘barber’ may be misused. I felt the same way so we removed the word. Legally, there was no problem keeping it but we often tease people with the Hindi word- think about it. Anyway, I feel that if a film is good, you can call it Ullu or Billu, people will still come and watch it.

You said that you would like to do an ordinary role in a realistic film. Why didn't you play the lead in Billu?
My director said that no one could play the lead in Billu except for Irrfan. He didn’t want any other big stars, just Irrfan because we all know that he is a brilliant actor. I thought that I should go and fight for the role but then I just let it be because I get to play a superstar- which I am (laughs).

Aamir Khan recently said that you are good at PR but not at marketing. Do you want to prove him wrong?
I don’t take compliments from people very seriously. I know what I have to do when it comes to my job and I don’t need to hear about it from other people. I want people to go watch my film so I promote it. Since I am producing it, it is my responsibility. I don’t think I need to explain myself. People like me, that is why I endorse so many products. Do you think that I have worked hard for 20 years just to make a film to prove to someone that I am also good at marketing? Aamir is a smart guy. I would like to know more about marketing from him.

You have removed ‘barber’ from your film because of protests. In your next film, My Name Is Khan, will you remove the word ‘Khan’ if the public had a problem with it?
I am just hoping that I don't have to remove the word ‘Billu’ from the film too! A man can suddenly come and say ‘My name is Billu’ and I will have to remove it. I really don't want my film to release without name! Then it will be just me, Irrfan and Lara posing for a film without a name.

Sonam & Deepika: There is no fight

Sonam on Deepika

What do you think of Deepika – is she competition?
See, the thing with competition is that you start concentrating too much on someone else’s career. Competition is unhealthy and one should consider only oneself as the benchmark. You can’t expect two actresses to be the same. Everyone is different.

And are you both friends?
Yes, I have a nice vibe going with her. I have a nice vibe going with everybody in the industry. We (Deepika and I) have made our separate niches in the industry. Our kind of work is not the same.

Deepika on Sonam

You and Sonam seem to be the best of friends. Did you girls exchange notes after watching the trailers of your forthcoming films?

It’s a nice equation that we share. I’m glad that all the awkwardness has gone. In fact, we avoid talking about work when we are together. It isn’t a thought out thing. We prefer not to tread on each other’s space. Sonam did see the trailers of the item number in my next film and was shocked to see my abs. I, on my part, am really looking forward to Delhi 6.

"The Rajasthan Royals are my gift to my dad" - Shilpa Shetty

Now that you are part-owner of the Rajasthan Royals, what plans do you have for the team?
If you're asking me this to find out how keenly I'm interested in this new venture then let me tell you, I'm hands-on into it. When (boyfriend) Raj Kundra and I decided to take the plunge into the IPL, we did it with our eyes open and after much deliberation. In hindsight it appears uncanny because among all the IPL teams I've always felt the most connected with the Rajasthan Royals

What would your contribution to the team be?
Well I am not going to bullshit myself into believing I've been brought in for my business acumen. The team had it all. They needed the glamour quotient and for that I am here. But please, I am not going to be one of the pom-pom girls on the field, if that's what the spectators expect. I'm certainly not going to be the eye candy of the venture.

So where will your glamour quotient come in?
In the music video, to begin with, our next move is to shoot a music video. We want it to be the slickest and the best. Of course I'll be in it. Isn't that a given? I've so many commitments in the coming months including my two films Sunny Deol's TheMan and R Sarath's Desire to complete. I'm not signing films crazily. So I can devote the time I want for the IPL.

So you're ready to shut up and bounce again?
(Laughs) You could say that. Doing it for my own venture would be a pleasure.

Will Raj direct the music video?
Ah, that would be telling. Let's see. Raj is a crazy cricket fan. And why shouldn't he be? He's an Indian who lives in England. All Indian men are crazy about cricket. And everyone knows cricket was born in England. So Raj has a double reason to buy a part of the IPL.

What about you?
I love cricket. I've inherited it from my father who's the craziest cricket fan I've ever met. The Rajasthan Royals are my gift to my father.

I thought it was Raj's Valentine gift for you?
Please! I'm sure there're other gifts awaiting me for Valentine's Day.

Like a marriage proposal?
That's mine for the asking anytime. Now that Raj is shifting business interests in India we just need to find the right moment to take the plunge.

The Bollywood-Cricket merger seems to be expanding?
It had to be that way. Shah Rukh and then Preity went for the IPL. For me the right moment to do so was when Raj was ready for it. Now I must make sure I've enough time to devote to the Rajasthan Royals. I'll be there for their first match in March and all subsequent matches. Yeh mera vada hai.

Salman & Katrina's V-day plans

Sorry guys ‘n’ dolls. I’ve just met a ‘crab’ who ain’t gonna scurry off the beach when the tide ebbs.

Or when predators and rivals challenge her turf. Katrina Kaif is one Cancerian who’ll use those claws to good defense. So be it Deepika’s innocuous remarks that upset her, or a so-called cold war with Asin. Or even her relationship status with Salman Khan – Katz simply smiles that lovely moony smile, speaks sensitive words of diplomacy and snaps your head off. So, read between the lines here dahlings – it’s a Katrina kayo!

So now you’re topping media popularity polls even — at par with Tendulkar and Co.?
Yes! A news channel has nominated me ‘Indian of The Year’ on the same platform as Sachin Tendulkar and some other big names. It’s a nice feeling. Great to know you’re there on the popularity charts, especially when it is the media and the public voting for you. In an industry based on relationships — where the best of friendships can go wrong, one can’t be popular and liked by all. So, this is even more special!

Deepika had said that you’re ‘her senior’. An ‘ouch’ remark?

Look, when you get neck deep into work there’s no room for rivalry. There’s place for all because there’s so much quality work all around. I like to give 100 per cent to my work. But I’m an emotional person, so all this unhealthy, idle gossip affects my health. Luckily the diversity of cinema today ensures that everyone has different kinds of movies. I’m doing movies with actors like Ranbir, John and, of course, my one annual biggie with Akshay. So there’s a sense of balance. As far as Deepika is concerned, if we waste time on ‘what she said’ or ‘what he said’, then we’ll only stay caught up in that web. Problem is, that most actresses cannot be perceived as friends. I do give Deepika the benefit of doubt. I’m sure it was a well-meaning statement!

Vibes between you and Asin don’t seem to be warm either. Going by reports that you landed up in Chandigarh (where she was filming with Salman) just to give her the ‘cold Katz’ treatment?
Oh my God! That was such a funny story. Asin is lovely and I’m happy Salman is working with her. But to clear the record, I went to Chandigarh on a personal visit and did not even go on Asin’s sets. This was all hot-controversy with no fire. Leave alone cold vibes.

Another bane of top actresses is a glut of clones ‘n’ comparisons. Now there are several Katrina ‘lookalikes’...
I take it as a compliment when people start using you as the benchmark to rate others. Then people say ‘Oh, this one looks like you, Oh that one looks like you’. I think it’s unfair to any girl to be compared to someone who’s already there. It puts the heavier burden, of them having to live up to expectations better suited to somebody else. Though, frankly, I don’t think that any of the girls compared to me are remotely similar to me.

There seems to be a catfight on between you and Priyanka. Some issue over top billing at an awards performance?
This is all baseless imagination of some gossip-mongers. My track for the event was decided a long time ago and everything was already cast in stone. I’ve known the show organisers, the Moranis, for sometime now; and they’re some of the most straightforward people in this business. So sorry guys, no catfight between Priyanka and me!

Rumour has it that your relationship with Salman is headed for permanency. He’s supposedly buying you a home on Valentine’s Day?
I must say that, according to media, Salman seems to be in some generous mood. He’s supposed to be buying me a place; supposedly buying Asin a place... It’s hilarious. Though the truth is, I don’t think that he’s buying any house — for her or me.

What’s your Valentine’s Day plan? Any special event with Salman?
Yes! Salman and I have plans on V-day. Unfortunately, not together. I’m shooting a song in Turkey with Rajkumar Santoshi; while Salman is shooting for Veer in northern India. Unless he plans to surprise me, of course!

Asin’s success is pukka!

With Valentine’s Day round the corner, looking sexy in red Asin is gracing the cover of a Filmfare this month.

With the success of Ghajini working wonders for the actress, Asin talks to us about being the face of the magazine, her next film London Dreams and being one of the most net savvy actresses in Bollywood today.

How do you define Filmfare?
Filmfare is the most renowned film magazine we have today and for me it's really special…not just now but since the day I was working down-south. They have helped me a lot and given me space in their magazine.

What’s been keeping you busy since Ghajini?
I am doing London Dreams with Ajay and Salman opposite me. We have completed the shoot in London.

We heard that you bond really well with Salman?
It's not that way…I share a pukka professional relationship with each one of my co-stars; whether it’s Aamir, Salman, Ajay, or even down south.

Any transformation in you nature post Ghajini?
This question can be answered by my close friends better then me. But as far I know there is no change at all. Earlier too I used to keep in touch with my fans through my website and now too I interact and reply to their mails.

All the stars are going internet…
But I have had my website for a long time as I am pukka net savvy. I like reading online…

We hear you have signed an international film with Kamal Haasan…

Yes…. The lead actor is a Japanese star Tadanobu Asano and also Kamal Haasan. It will be in three languages. But I think it's too early to talk about the film. The pre-production is going on right now and probably the shoot will start in August.

Your career seems to be a lot like Deepika’s. The big A list stars to debut with… then an action film.
I don't think so! I have my own way… the way I am looking at my career. It's just a coincidence but 19th Steps… it’s not a pukka action film…it's more of a war drama.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I’m a complete book worm! I remember when I use to flick books and hide it from my dad! And pukka is my new favourite word… I say it all the time.

‘I haven’t ever forgotten my marriage anniversary’

You are back on television once again but this time as producer.
Yeah...I started my acting career with serials like Circus and Fauji. I got to learn a lot of things. I got into films because of having worked in serials.

After Circus, you are once again working with Aziz Mirza on the television front.
Yes. Nothing would have been possible without Aziz Mirza’s expertise, advice, and guidance. I would have been nowhere without him.

What made you venture into TV when low TRPs have become the order of the day?
You need support and friends who think alike. We have been discussing this since last two-three years. There is risk for sure but NDTV Imagine was confident that we were competitive enough. I want the young people in my film production house Red Chillies to diversify into different arena.

What kind of programmes will your production house churn out?
There is nothing specific that we are planning for television. I have been a film producer for the last eight to nine years and have an acting experience of 20 years. I can bring a difference to television in terms of presentation of content. I will try to bring cinematic value to television.

Why did you choose title Ghar Ki Baat Hai for this sitcom?
It’s a good title. It has lyricism in it. We had another title called Devdas Ki Maut which was not so happening. The serial is about a family, their neighbours and different situations that they face in life thus its Ghar Ki Baat. If you ask me why comedy, personally I like comedy more than anything else.

Do you think this serial has your Ghar Ki Baat?
Well television industry doesn’t have that much money to have a set like my home. Jokes apart, it will have everybody’s ghar ki baat with lots of spice. Its first episode has Sumit Raghavan forgetting his anniversary. Interestingly, I haven’t forgotten my marriage anniversary yet. Even otherwise there are stories like these happening in my home too.

Will you be making a special appearance in the serial?
Yeah I will be making special appearance as and when required. We will try to rope in more special stars if required.

Kangana Ranaut going Aamir's way

Raaz- The Mystery Continues has been declared the first smash hit of 2009. The film is said to gross 35 crores before the weekend arrives and naturally this has the main protagonist of the film, Kangana Ranaut, smiling from ear to ear. In fact when we spoke to Kangana, she said she was pretty confident about the success of her film.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

How was your overall experience of working in Raaz?
It was good in all aspects and the kind of character I have executed in Raaz, it needed a lot hard work. And I went through it and did my part as an actor. And I also discovered that when working in horror film a lot depends on the character and the treatment of the film. I think Mohit has done a really good job. In fact every one in the film has been impressive be it Emraan or anyone.

What about Adhyayan?
He is a good actor. There is no doubt and he absorbs things before enacting it. That's what I saw on the sets of Raaz. He has worked very hard for his part and at the same time he was a great support for his co-stars.

Tell us something about him that no one knows…
(laughs) He is a complete foodie and he eats all the raashan kept in my home!

He sings too!
Yes he sings well but he is self obsesses! I was the first one to hear him singing.

You are one of the very few people who work on one film at a time. Are you learning from Aamir?
Aamir is my all time favourite actor! He is a true actor…And somewhere even I think that rather than doing ten films in a year I should do one film and that's all. But of course risk is there in doing just one film and so I am really careful about the kind of movie I choose to do.

"Harman has a great sense of humor" - Amrita Rao

By Joginder Tuteja

2008 was an eventful year for Amrita Rao. She started off with My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves which in spite of not doing well at the box office, at least helped showcase a different (read glam) side of hers. A special appearance in Shaurya followed but the role was so small that it went relatively unnoticed. However, she bounced back with Welcome To Sajjanpur where in her 'gaon ki gori' role, she went on to win hearts all over again. From a village setting, she graduated to playing a small time girl in Victory which is now finally getting ready to hit the screens this Friday.

Even though the film primarily belongs to Harman Baweja and the dozens of cricketers who have consented to be a part of the project, Victory does promise to have something meaty for Amrita Rao also to showcase her acting skills. The pretty girl with a characteristic laugh gets on a free wheeling chat with Joginder Tuteja as she talks about Victory being primarily a Harman Baweja film and how he was fully prepared for the role before facing the camera.

Amrita, first things first, there have been quite a few talks about real life references for Harman's character in the film. Yuvraj, Dhoni - number of names have been thrown around! Do you want to shed light on this? Also, were you too given any reference points when you read through the script?
Let me say that Victory is a Vijay Shekhawat story that could speak of every cricketer who hails from a small town and goes on to be a part of the Indian cricket team. The film talks about any aspiring cricketer who rises to the top. And no, even I didn't receive any reference points before the shoot. I play the character of a medical student from a small town who is a friend of this young boy who goes on to be a cricketer. However, in the process of getting rich and famous, he starts losing his bearings. I act as his conscience when he is down in the dumps.

So how did you go about approaching the role?
It was quite interesting because I could easily identify with Vijay's character here. In real life, I have some shades of him because I have gained reasonable popularity and hence have to watch every step that I take in my life. I come from a profession which is so challenging and demanding. The whole world judges you on every move of yours and I realize that how important it is to be surrounded by good company of real friends. There are chances of fake people around you who could be responsible for you being pulled down.

You sound emotional about the importance of real friends...
That's right, because there are only a few who could call one. These are the real friends who matter most to you because eventually they bring with them positive influences. How eventually you are going to transfer such positive influences in your work is something that is of utmost importance. In this sense, I am playing that other side in Vijay's life who tries to bring to him those positive influences. Since I could identify Vijay's situation very well and empathize with what he was going through, it became an interesting experience.

So what was that strong factor in Victory that made you sign the film?
Its script and the canvas. For the first time in Bollywood history, there is this film coming which literally has 45 international sportspeople coming together. In Manmohan Shetty, we have one of the biggest producers associated with the project. And then of course there is Harman. Clearly, Victory had number of reasons for me to go for the film.

You have worked in around 10 odd films while for Harman it was just his second film. Did you two have a mutual bond that allowed you to give him suggestions or point out areas of improvements due to your prior experience?
I didn't actually have to come up with suggestions since Harman himself comes from an industry background. He has assisted his father and wasn't a newcomer at all when he worked in Victory or for that matter Love Story 2050. He was very much aware about the whole operation and the works. He was fully prepared when he stepped in to shoot for Victory. This is why, never once did I feel that I had to interfere or help him.

You seem to be impressed with your co-star…
I truly am because he is so very good. I will give him 100% marks for his act in the film; he is just so correct there. I didn't once find him conscious or nervous. I have worked with so many established actors but even when I was working with him; it all seemed just the same. He is very energetic and has a great sense of humor. He keeps everyone laughing on the sets but once the director begins to call the shots, he knows when to get serious and perform.

KJO Unplugged!

He is known for playing his cards, or shall we say, brewing his coffee well ...always-be it as a producer, director, host or cameo actor. And of course he has his own set of humour that adds a flavour to every thing he does. Karan Johar gets candid with our correspondent.

Is it true that you have become a 'dietician' to Kajol and Kareena?

Oh my God! I expected you to start with DOSTANA and you shot the other way...(laughs). It's all right. See, I have not become a 'dietician' to Kajol and Kareena in a true sense, but I have given them some suggestions to abide by if they are interested in working in my next films. I have asked Kajol to lose some flab for MY NAME IS KHAN. And I told Kareena not to lose weight for an unnamed Dharma Productions film to be directed by a friend Rensil D'Silva.

I understand Kajol's weight loss, but Kareena's size zero is quite 'in' now...
That's a myth and may be a momentary craze. But the truth is Indian audience always prefers a healthy (not fat) heroine...this size zero concept is not for Hindi film heroines, at least that's what I feel.

You will be directing again after quite some time. Tell us more about MY NAME IS KHAN?
MY NAME IS KHAN is a film based on the psyche of a Muslim man whose name comes up in the suspect list of terrorists post 9/11. Yes, as usual, this film has Shah Rukh as the hero and Kajol as the heroine. And I will be directing a film after quite some time. The trio will be back to sizzle the screen after KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM. So you may as well call it my comeback as a director.

We heard it took you long to persuade Kajol to sign the film. True?
Kajol is always like that...she knows she can never say 'No' to me...still she tries in vain. But the point is, I am very happy that she has finally agreed to do the film because only she can play her character in the film.

Why is Shah Rukh an indispensable part of almost every Dharma Productions film? Is it because he sells?
Shah Rukh is definitely one of the biggest stars in Bollywood and his screen presence does make a difference. But the reason why he is in almost all our films is something different. My father (Yash Johar) was very fond of Shah Rukh, in fact he considered him to be family, which of course, SRK is. And when I decided to make films, he said: 'Beta, if possible, try to involve Shah Rukh in all Dharma Productions projects.' Besides, Shah Rukh has been a friend, philosopher and guide...it's an old association and old habits die hard.

I’m not Superman: Akshay

You would have thought with the appalling reviews and public criticism his 2009 non-starter Chandni Chowk To China (CC2C) received in India, Akshay Kumar would have retreated to a corner to sulk and lick his wounds .

Far from it! Bollywood’s action hero who laughs, cries, sings, dances and kickboxes in the film that producer Warner Bros’ American audiences and the Hollywood press (also, Indian kids) actually enjoyed, is standing on his feet having taken the punches squarely on the chin... BT put him on the mat and got him to deliver straight replies to some more punches...

With this flop, it’s being said your golden spell is over...
But my so-called flop has generated Rs 45 crore in the first weekend... it’s the fourth highest, three-day box office collection in the history of Bollywood. Besides, I never said this was the greatest film ever made. I told everyone, ‘It’s a senseless film, leave your brains at home.’ I accept it for what it is, I love it for what it is, and I will stand by it and say that’s the film we wanted to make and we made. I pray you like it, and I’m sorry if you don’t. But I didn’t break my back doing it to have my own fraternity later stab me from behind...

But you’re hugely successful, you had the opportunity to choose ... did you make the right choice?
I accept failure, no problem; failing isn’t the scary part, reading newpapers is what brings me out in a cold sweat! Mistakes I can live with, but regret is one thing I can do without. I did my best, I’m not Superman, if I never fall how will I pick myself up to climb again!

Shekhar Suman says you ought to apologise for CC2C...
Bollywood is a family, if you have a problem come to my house and discuss it with me over tea, don’t poison the minds of our public. Have you ever heard me hurt anyone? But Shekar Suman’s not the only one. His son’s film releases tomorrow and I wish him the very best. I hope no one ever talks about Shekhar’s son the same way he spoke about me.

Where does CC2C leave you?
Thank God I’m not considered number one or anything of the sort. I’m happy being the underdog that has to struggle. It’s what I’m used to doing and it’s where I’m happiest. I can get on with being the dude who just wants to make films. Wish me luck ...

What is the road ahead like?
Bumpy, full of pot-holes, but I’ll reach my destination ... I work hard, I do good things with my money, and all I want to do at the end of the day is go home and play with my innocent son. No film, no money and no amount of success is more precious than that. I’m lucky, every month my son’s dying to see another one of my films!

People say you’ve lost your trademark modesty with success...
No one can ever take away my modesty. I haven’t changed since the day I started, in fact I’m even more mellow now than I used to be. People are dying to pull me down. I understand why. But I won’t become too big for my boots. Have I ever thrown my weight around or abused my position in the industry? Why do you think after all the flops I am still here!

You gave away your Best Actor award in the Popular category to Aamir Khan. People claim that magnanimity was not the reason behind your grand gesture...
Of course they will, you only hear crap about me around release time; they did it to me before Singh Is Kinng and are doing it again now. I gave my award to Aamir because I felt he deserved it. Just because he doesn’t turn up for awards doesn’t mean I can pretend it doesn’t belong to him. I was honoured to be given the award and, to be honest, it took a lot for me to give it away. Aamir knows why I did what I did, he understands me, why can’t people? Everybody’s not corrupt.

I want my performances on stage to be exclusive and rare: Kareena Kapoor

You’ve apparently made up your mind to not do any more stage shows.

That’s not true at all. I never said that. But I won’t dance at weddings and private functions. I’ve done it in the past. But I won’t do it any more. I don’t want to or need to do such things. Dancing for a proper staged event, including awards functions, is fine. In fact, I’m dancing at an event in Delhi in the last week of January.

You’d refused to dance with other actresses at an awards function...
I had nothing against dancing for the function. The Moranis (the organisers) were discussing it with me from the time I was going on holiday. I was out of reach for a week. But before I left for my holiday, I told them I didn’t like the five-diva act concept. I had informed them of this before I left for my holiday. I didn’t want to be a part of it. Is that a crime?

You had informed the organizers of your reservations in advance?
Oh yes, well in advance. So, I didn’t ‘back out’. I love awards and love to dance at awards functions. Last year, I danced at all the awards functions. This year, I don’t have the time to rehearse for these functions. See, for the kind of films I’m doing, I’ve got to be completely there. I can’t take out four hours to rehearse. I’ll dance next year. I want my performances on stage to be exclusive and rare.

But the general perception is that you don’t enjoy being on stage.
Oh, I love it! But not right now. I’ve to give my best to my roles. As an actor, that’s my first priority. I’d like to give 100 per cent of myself to the camera. I was shooting in Bangalore for 3 Idiots. I will be in Mumbai for a couple of days to shoot an ad. And then I leave India to shoot for an international magazine.

How is it going with 3 Idiots?
I’m totally blessed to be working with Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan. I’m not there for the whole Bangalore schedule. Beyond that I can’t say much about the film...except that I’m not playing one of the idiots.

You’ve also decided not to talk about your relationship with Saif Ali Khan?
Too much was said and written about us in 2008. So, until our relationship goes to the next level, there’s no need to talk about it.

Do you feel there is a Saif-Kareena overkill in the media?
There’s a curiosity about us because we’re seen as a glam couple. We both laugh about it. Saif looks at himself in the mirror and asks, ‘Do you think I’m glamorous?’ I tend to be very open about my feelings. We’ve never hidden our relationship, but we’ve said enough. This year, let our films talk.

You’ve just been on a holiday. Have you come back looking healthier?
If by that you mean have I put on weight, then yes. I have. I need put on weight for 3 Idiots and Rensil d’Silva’s film. In the Marjani song I’m looking... slim. But not paper thin. I’ll continue to be healthy and eat healthy. I snack here and there. But I’ve become so conscious of my fitness level that I can’t eat at irregular hours. I wake up with yoga.

I don’t regret turning down Slumdog: SRK

One week after the Golden Globes and Slumdog Millionaire, Shah Rukh Khan talks to BT about going to LA and walking on stage with lead actress Freida Pinto in hand to present Danny Boyle’s film on Mumbai with the prestigious award. “It was a historic moment and I felt proud to be an Indian,” said the actor who was introduced as the King of Bollywood and who...yes, had rejected the role in the film that subsequently went to Anil Kapoor!

How different was the Golden Globes from our award shows?
The people are very gracious and are genuinely happy for each other’s success. In India we go to such functions only to collect our own awards and sneak away. There people stayed back and shared the happiness in the get-together.

Were you intimidated by Hollywood’s biggies?
No, I felt confident like always. Given a chance, I would have shown them some Bollywood pelvic movements!

What stopped you?

I don’t know how they would have taken it, they are not familiar with our humour, it would have been a little out of place.

How are Hollywood’s A-listers?
Usually I am very anti-social. But that night I was taken around and it was wonderful to meet everyone. People spoke very graciously about Bollywood. I am naturally shy of women, but when I saw Demi Moore, Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez, I must say... they are so beautiful! I was introduced to Mark Antony and Dustin Hoffman, too. There was Beyonce and Gerard Butler whom I know from before. Emma Thompson, who I know since the last three years, blew me a flying kiss.

You regret not accepting the role that Anil Kapoor played?
No. I know Danny felt bad about it. But he is such a good human being. And his love for India is something very special. After I saw the film, I thought Anil had done a fabulous job and deserves every bit of the
success.

Other roles that you refused (Lagaan, Munnabhai MBBS and now 3 idiots) went on to make big news...

There shouldn’t be any afterthought once a decision is made. Nobody could have done a better job than Sanjay Dutt in Munnabhai... Yes, I was keen to do Lagaan, but Ashutosh and I didn’t get a producer at that time. I wasn’t into production then. And I didn’t do 3 Idiots which Aamir is doing now. Looks like Aamir was destined to do both the roles. He is brilliant, no doubt. Everything isn’t made for me alone. God has given me enough, I’d better be happy and contented.

'Khiladi made me,' says Akshay

Akshay Kumar, the khiladi who’s always game for another movie and more work, is touring the US and UK for the worldwide premieres of Chandni Chowk to China. Akki tells us what Indian cinema’s international connect means to him now...

From an action movie star to being seen as someone who has made commercial Indian movies popular in the West... how does it feel?
Oh, you know, the usual – I get up at the same time, brush my teeth, then I remember, ‘Oh my God, people think I am more than what I am.’ It’s, well, scary, but it’s a part of doing what I do, and if one does something well, they have to suffer the pressure of higher expectations... It is great, though, but living up to people’s expectations is hard. I just want to entertain, but so much else comes with the package.

Which of your movies do you think was the turning point of your career?
Without a shadow of a doubt, it was Khiladi. That’s what made me, and I know that ‘name’ is what took me into the future. I could easily have been left behind, but those films carried me forward to this day.

How was the experience of working with Gordon Liu, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Snoop Dogg and other international artistes?
They are a credit to not only their profession, but to their country and their industry. The people I have had the pleasure of working with, have been incredibly hardworking, respectful, dedicated and very humble. They inspire me, they make me want to learn more, try harder, achieve more. I’m lucky to have worked with them, because I know that there are some difficult people out there, but as usual, God has blessed me very kindly.

What is your take on foreign collaborations in Indian cinema?
I think it’s wonderful, and why not? We all have the same passion in life and that’s to create great cinema. If it needs us to all join hands, then brilliant, we all live in the same world, why not come together?

You have seen international audiences react to our movies, up close and personal. What is it about Indian cinema that appeals to them?
If you hadn’t noticed, Indians are everywhere. There are towns all over the world that are comprised of only Indians. We spread our love and passion to our western neighbours, we’re not exactly quiet about our passions, are we? And in my experience, everyone wants to experience what they don’t have, what they don’t know. That’s why so many foreigners come to India – we are fascinating to them and I don’t blame them... my country still fascinates me!

You have over 80 movies to your credit... How has the industry changed, for better or for worse, over the time you’ve been here?
Over a 100 movies, by the way... The industry’s changed immensely. I had to wear the same pair of jeans for my first couple of films ’coz we couldn’t afford designers! So much has changed and obviously for the better. But even if it hadn’t, I’d still be here trying to make it better.

Do our movies have the same Box Office success rate abroad as they do in India?
I wouldn’t think as yet. Anyway, there are over a billion people in India – that’s a lot of people to visit cinemas in one country! But I’d have to say that the majority of NRIs are Bollywood fanatics, and it’s wonderful to see that. I’ve had a huge success rate at the overseas Box Office, so I would say we are getting appreciation from all over the world.

You have also recently signed Deepa Mehta’s Komagata Maru. This movie required an Indian actor with a permanent resident status in Canada. How long have you had the permanent resident status, and will you be playing the role of a Sikh lawyer in the movie?
Sorry mates, it’s too early into the project to be discussing anything about the movie, I’m afraid, but I have had my residency for a few years now. Toronto is another of my favourite homes away from home.

Anything about your co-actors in CC2C – Mithun Chakraborty and Deepika Padukone?

Oh, the wonderful Mithunda – he was the perfect man for this role. His strength is still unbelievable to me. And Deepika did especially well in this movie, and we are all proud of her. With her drive, that lady will go far.

Is there any particular movie genre that you still haven’t done and would like to do?

Not that I know of... I mean, I’ve never made a horror movie, but that takes an incredible storyline. I suppose I could consider that, but mostly I think I’ve tried my hand at pretty much everything. But I’ll show you more, just wait and watch...

You have your son’s name tattooed on your back. What does Aarav bring to your life?

He made me see the true meaning of life. He made me think, ‘What the hell was I doing in life before he came along?’ Really, that’s what he does to me. It’s amazing how someone so small and tiny, can change a man as big as me – and I’m talking about my height, by the way, not my stature!

In 2008, you were tagged the sexiest man alive. Your comments.
The judges must have been blind or on drugs, I don’t know... I’m honoured, don’t get me wrong. I’m just trying not to blush in this interview, that’s all.

Deepika: I trained for 6 months, 8 hours a day for CC2C

CC2C starring Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Ranvir Shorey will hit all the theatres this Friday. CC2C shot in China is a kung fu comedy where both Akshay and Deepika will be seen in a double role. The Indo-Chinese princess, Deepika, speaks to us about her much awaited film.

Tell us about CC2C?
Well, I guess all of you must have watched the trailers and they say it all. All I would like to say is that you all must go and watch it as you'll definitely enjoy it.

Which is your favorite song from CC2C?
Tere Naina is my favorite song. It's a beautiful romantic song.

We've heard that you've learnt Chinese for this movie....
Yes, I've learnt little bit of Chinese of which unfortunately I don't even remember a word. (Laughs) But it was a wonderful experience; I had a lot of fun because learning a new language is very challenging and so I loved it.

You've even shot for many action sequences with Akshay Kumar. So how was the overall experience?
It was very difficult for me as I've never done action before. But I was trained for 6 months. I used to train for about 8 hours a day and that was very difficult for me but I think it's all paid off and I just hope you all enjoy all the action scenes in the movie.

Tell us about using glue to get the look in the film
We all were wondering how to get the Chinese look and Nikhil Advani wanted me to wear tapes to get the Chinese look but that however that didn't happen. My make up artist did this technique of using the eyeliner in a way that would make my eyes look slender and oriental.

Your song from 'Billu Barber' is already out and it's getting very positive reactions too. So how was it working with SRK again?
I was really glad that Shahrukh chose me. The fact that I've done my debut with him is very special to me and so I can never say 'NO' to him. And the fact that the entire OSO team was back with Farah, Shahrukh and myself including my costume designer Manish Malhotra who designed my clothes for the song .... so it was a sense of deja vu because it's exactly after one year of the release of OSO that we were shooting for this song so I am very happy.

"I want to win Oscar for the people of India than for myself" - A.R. Rahman

A.R Rahman who turned 43 on Jan 6, has won The Golden Globe Award for his music in Slumdog Millionaire, the first Indian musician to do so. Bringing you excerpts from the interview he gave to Subhash K Jha before he left for the Golden Globe.

I don't think any Indian musician has won the Golden Globe award?
That's good. I see it as an honour for India, not just for me. More to come, hopefully.

The Golden Globe is seen as a precursor to the Oscars.
Let's hope so. I've my fingers crossed. When a film and my music get acceptance, it's the equivalent of an Oscar for me. For the people of India to get an Oscar is a big thing. So for their sake more than mine, I hope my song 'Jai Ho' and my music score in Slumdog Millionaire win the Oscar.

Freida Pinto says of the 4 Golden Globe Nominations for Slumdog Millionaire, yours makes her the proudest.
That's really sweet of her. I was in LA to have lunch with all the panel members of the Oscars. Also, to do press meets and promotion for Slumdog Millionaire which is getting a terrific response in LA. You know some critics in the US say it's one of the best films they've ever seen. It's not just about my music. It's the way the director Danny Boyle has put together the film.

Please explain.
The throbbing pulse of Mumbai is superbly captured in the film. Slumdog Millionaire (SM) is about suffering, hope and redemption. If my music in SM has made an impact in the West, it's because it's projected so effectively. Though some of the songs are in Hindi, nobody complained about them being boring or incomprehensible. 'Jai Ho', the song that has been nominated for the Golden Globe, 'O Saya' and 'Ringa Ringa' which is influenced by 'Choli Ke Peeche' are in a foreign language for them. But the Americans love it.

Were you in the US to lobby for the Oscar for 'Jai Ho'?
It's not about lobbying. It's about letting the jury members meet you, get to know you and decide if the person behind the creation is worth putting a vote for. As an artiste I need to be recognized on a human level. So I needed to go to Hollywood with my song 'Jai Ho'. I met all the top Hollywood soundtrack composers like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and Danny Elfman.

And what did they have to say about your music?
They had genuinely warm comments for my music in Slumdog Millionaire. At first I thought they were just being sweet and polite. You know, LA is a kind of place where people in the entertainment industry say a lot of things they don't mean. So I double-checked. And these big guns in Hollywood really meant it. I think they love the Mumbai that they've seen in the film. And Danny has made terrific use of my music. The way he has mixed my songs, they're full-on, like a discotheque.

Has Mumbai's image suffered a setback in the US after 26/11?
Everyone is a bit shaken. Security has been tightened even more in the US. That's what I was subjected to in every hotel that I went. Everyone has to be more careful. There's a little bit of negativity about what happened. But the way they look at India, our music and cinema is very positive.

You sound really upbeat.
The image of Mumbai is still intact. Slumdog Millionaire has promoted Mumbai tourism to a great extent. I don't think any city in the world has been portrayed as vibrantly as Mumbai. I got the right vibes in LA. A lot of people want to come to India to collaborate in our entertainment industry. Akon and Nelly Furtado are interested. We just have need to carry it forward.

"I'm charmed by Shah Rukh Khan" - Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan on being a marketing monster, feeling powerful, doing bench presses, ganging up with Salman on SRK, handling flops and being surrounded by gopis.

What was it about Ghajini that made you want to do it?
I found the Tamil version to be extremely engaging and entertaining. It intrigued me but I made up my mind when I met the director, AR Murugadoss. Frankly, I was completely taken in by his infectious positive energy and childlike excitement.

Regarding the eight packs, has Ghajini been your physically most demanding film -more than Mangal Pandey or Lagaan?
Every film has its own demands but yes, Ghajini was physically daunting because I had to train very hard. I had to keep at it and not lose patience. I had an athletic body but the director wanted me to bulk up with eight packs which was a challenge because I didn't know if I could achieve it. So, in a way, Ghajini made me resilient.

Post 26/11, do you think the timing of its release was unfavorable, especially keeping in view its violent content?
Personally, the attack is far greater and serious an issue for me than the release of my film. That said I was very clear that if the film is good, it'll work. The collections prove it.

Do Ghajini's thumping collections make you feel powerful?
Power doesn't figure in my hierarchy of needs. I won't use the word powerful; rather I'd say it makes me feel happy and blessed. When Taare Zameen Par (TZP) reaches so many people and changes so many lives, I don't feel powerful but gratified.

When did you last feel powerful?
(Thinks hard) I guess when I did my last set of bench press!

If TZP gets you an Oscar, maybe then you'd feel powerful?
(Shrugs) I'm not thinking of the Oscar. Right now, I'm focused on Ghajini and 3 Idiots. If we make it to the final five nominations which will be announced on January 22, then I'll think of the Oscar. I'll let you know what I feel then. (Laughs)

Over the last five years, you've become this monstrous marketing god; can you tell us how and when do you start planning the marketing strategy?
(Laughs) When I plan the marketing strategy, I try to understand the core values of the film. Each film has a unique marketing demand. I have about nine people in my marketing team. We brainstorm together. Our guiding principle is that cinema is a form of mass communication and we have to tell the audience the core values of our film. Once the film is complete, we see it and plan the strategy as to how to prepare the people for this particular film. Today, marketing is an important part of filmmaking. You need to make the audience excited about the film; you need to create the right atmosphere.

But don't you think sometimes you go overboard, like giving the Ghajini haircut to the ushers the day Shah Rukh Khan's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi released?
(Shrugs) It was a part of our marketing strategy. We were going to do that two weeks before the release of Ghajini irrespective of the film that was playing. We had initially planned to release Ghajini on October 2 but pushed it back after my leg injury. We would have done the same thing then too. There are two principles that I follow when I market my films: we should honestly represent the film to not mislead the audience and we shouldn't do anything negative. I'm very clear that while I do my best, I should not harm anyone else. As for giving the ushers the Ghajini haircut, we wanted it to be like a trailer. At the end of it, you can do as much publicity as you want but ultimately it's the film that matters.

But there is some undercurrent with SRK, isn't it? You two have been taking digs at each other.
We have high regard for each other. If you look at his interviews, you will see that Shah Rukh only talks about himself, makes digs at others and puts others down. He talks really big but he's a charming guy. I have no hesitation in saying that I'm charmed by SRK. It's just that media takes an extreme stand; it pits us as either enemies or as best friends. As for all our back-and-forth talks, it just shows that both of us have a good sense of humour.

Aren't you and Salman Khan ganging up on SRK, especially with Salman painting your Ghajini look and you sporting his charitable organization's (Being Human) tee at a media event?
(Smiles) We're not ganging up. Both Salman and Shah Rukh are my friends. I didn't ask Salman to paint me; he did it on his own. As for me wearing his tee, if Salman is doing something noble in starting an organization that'll help needy people, I'm happy to support him.

Do you agree you're a control freak?
I'm not a control freak. I'm realistic about my limits. When I act in a film, it's the director who is the boss. It's not my responsibility to control the film. But I'm always there if the director wants any help or suggestion. I just go with the flow.

In the 20 years that you've been here, has there been any shift in your guiding principle of making movies?
Not at all. I've always done films I believe in. I've always had an emotional approach to my work. This is my life so I only want to do those films that I really want to be a part of. I've gone wrong quite a few times especially in the first six months of my career after Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak when I signed every film offered to me. But they were all my decisions. I've learnt quickly from my failures.

How badly does a flop affect you?
I'm very emotionally involved with my films. If ever I have to face a failure, I'd like to take full responsibility for it. Even the failure is mine, I like to value my flops and hold them close to me. I like to mourn my failure and try to learn from it.

What do you want your legacy to be?
I'm very ambitious. I'd like to do work of the level people haven't seen before. I want to raise the bar as an actor, producer and director. I'd like to do films that would live on much after I'm no longer there. Even if someone sees Lagaan 200 years later, he should say, "Who's that guy, yaar?"

Is there any role you haven't done and are dying to attempt?
I really find Mahabharata fascinating. I would love to play Karan, who was 6 '3 and a born warrior. So, I don't think I fit the part physically but emotionally I do. I think the part I suit the best would be that of Krishna. When I was in KG, I had these really chubby cheeks. Girls would find me cute and surround me. I also used to eat makhan all the time so my mom would call me Krishna and the girls my gopis.

‘A girl doesn’t look for six-packs in men’

SOS friends! Hurricane Katrina is here. Sweeping through hearts of men, women and youth alike. She’s the storm and she’s the siren. Yes! Katz

is making mercury rise like never before – with hot films, a soaring fan following and an army of young supporters that are making the hottie a formidable storm to weather.

No wonder I wore my shining armour and decided to chat with this vibrant, sassy, beautiful lass with the incredible smile about Salman, SRK and more. But I came away feeling (and smiling) like Akshay Kumar in Welcome — in need of rescuing by a sensitive Cancerian beauty.

So Katz, your P.S. to success is already being written — criticism ... now people say you look ‘too perfect’!
Frankly, I feel a little imperfection makes for an almost perfect face, like Madhubala and Madhuri who look so charming and real. I think someone like Claudia Schiffer looks too perfect, while Cindy Crawford’s small imperfections make her more likeable.

Hey now! Aishwarya is considered a ‘perfect’ beauty...
I think Aishwarya is extremely talented. I like the way she conducts herself. I enjoy her movies and I think she is an icon of Indian cinema. I think Aishwarya is cool.

Your Dubai tour with SRK was a big success. However we’re second-guessing about your dosti with King Khan himself?
I have a very high respect for him, though I don’t know him very well. He’s a big star and I was delighted he came for my party. He speaks very little and is extremely polite, shy and charming. Since I’ve not done any movies with him, I guess it’ll take me a while to get to know him; unlike Akshay with whom I have done four movies and share an incredible rapport.

Akki-pairing equals lucky-pairing, right?
Yes! We’ve been very lucky together. Akshay Kumar is a fantastic co-star. He’s been one of the best actors to learn from; and the best thing is that he’s so humble and down-to-earth. With greater success he’s changed even more positively. I have an amazing comfort level with him.

And what of your beautiful relationship with Salman?
What can I say about Salman? I’ve known him forever. He’s one of the most generous human beings I’ve met. I take his advice for everything. He either likes you or you don’t exist for him. I’m a private person who believes in keeping my innermost feelings away from public view. Salman shows whatever he wants to; but he has a heart of gold.

And who has the best male physique today?
If I want to be politically correct I can say all our heroes have good bodies today. Everyone looks good because all of them work hard on their bodies. One of the first was Salman. And it is always tough to maintain a good body for so long. Akshay also has one of the finest lean and tough bodies. Aamir has developed a great physique. This is remarkable because it’s tougher to build such a body and maintain it after a certain age. But, frankly, what a girl looks for in a man are not his six-packs, his looks, or his age difference – it’s just his kindness and his charm that win women over.

"Jumbo has elements that Lion King had" - Lara Dutta

This Christmas 'Every thing's gonna be alright', and that's exactly what the film Jumbo says. Bollywood Hungama caught up with the gorgeous Lara Dutta who has lent her voice to the melodious character of Sonia in the film. In a free-wheeling chat Lara talks about her experience dubbing for this animated flick.

For the first time you will be giving voiceover for an animated film in Bollywood. How did you think of this, all of a sudden?
Akshay is a very good friend... I remember it was when we were shooting an action sequence in Phuket for the film Blue that he offered me Jumbo. He told me that it is a very sweet film and he would love to have me play a part in it. I also felt it was a lovely film and immediately signed it. I have always been fond of watching animation films, so to be part of an animation film got me really excited.

So you agreed to lend your voice for the film because of Akshay?
Yes... but then that is just one of the factors. Akshay and I have done many films. He is a fantastic co star and a dear friend. It is always my pleasure to work with him. However, like I said I was thrilled to be part of an animation film. And Jumbo is a very sweet film.

What is your character in the film? Do you think your voice suited the character?

The cute pink elephant is me (Smiles) I play Jumbo's love interest. Her name is Sonia. I was required to sound very melodious so I had to ensure that I got it right. It was fun and I have given my best. Hope the audience feels that my voice has suited the character.

Which is more difficult? Acting or giving voice to an animated character?
Well, it is difficult to give voice to an animated character. But then, there are two sides to it. The difficult part is that since you haven't shot for it, you have to understand the emotions that the character is supposed to go through. That is a challenge. But on the positive side you can interpret it in many ways... it allows you to be creative. You don't need to talk in an exaggerated manner. You just have to understand the graph of your character and speak accordingly.

Jumbo is basically about family and its values, how much do you agree with this?
Yes... a lot. The film is high on family values. The story is about a baby elephant who longs for his father and how he leaves his herd and embarks upon a journey in search of his father. I was very touched with the storyline.

Which other animated films have you seen and liked the best?
I love Lion King... In fact Jumbo has elements that Lion King had.

Is the film targeting kids only?
No... It is for everyone. You are never too old for animation movies. Jumbo isn't a mindless film. It has a definite storyline and a moral to the story which the audience will like. But yes... I'm doing this film completely for my kiddie audience.

Apart from Jumbo... what else do you have in the pipeline?
There's Blue with Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt, then there is Billu Barber with Irrfan Khan and Shahrukh. Apart from that there is Do Knot Disturb with Govinda and Banda Yeh Bindass Hai with Salman.

"I've tried to be as dignified about my personal life as possible" - Kareena Kapoor

What are you doing in this guy-oriented cast of Raj Kumar Hirani's 3 Idiots?
I've an effective role. And no power on this earth would've made me miss the chance of working with Raju Hirani. I'm a lucky girl. I'm being offered one film every day. I don't have time to read scripts. I'll do so in March 2009 after I finish my current lot of films which includes Karan Johar's film with Saif. Normally, a Bollywood actress does about forty days' work. My directors are taking about a hundred days with me. I've already given Karan a hundred days for his film directed by Rensil D'Silva.

Looking back it has been a turbulent year for you?
I wouldn't call it turbulent. It's an exciting phase in my life when so many things rushed down on me at the same time. The last year was a turning-point in my life. But the end-result is happy. Both professionally and emotionally I think I've come out a winner. I've tried to be as dignified about my personal life as possible. As for my work, God has been kind.

Do you think you're lucky?

It's not just luck. I've worked really hard to get here. It's my perseverance that has got me where I am. And I owe my success to no one else but myself.

Perseverance? Hmm....You've begun to sound like Saif.
Yes, my vocabulary has increased. He makes me memorize some pages of the Oxford dictionary every day (laughs). That's a joke. But seriously, he does speak very well. So I'm trying to catch up.

OK...a really difficult question. Who's your favourite Khan?
Ah-ha. Do I have to spell it out?

Is there anything you want?
I have it all. For me the journey as an actress has just begun. And I'm not going to shift focus from it for 4-5 years.

No marriage for 4-5 years?
I know I definitely want to. But not at least for the next three years. The work I'm doing is giving me so much satisfaction. No 27-year old can ask for more.

People gave your relationship with Saif no more than six months?
There's absolutely no room for such negativity in my life. I only have place for people who are positive and who make me happy by sharing in my happiness. This is the best phase in my life. And I feel I'm in a place where I've never been before. As an actress I feel everyone and that includes me, expects things from me that are not generally expected from Bollywood actresses except maybe a Kajol or my sister Karisma.

Do you get enough time with Saif?
He's extremely loving and supportive. He knows how long it's taken me to get the work that I'm getting now. In fact the best phase of my career started when Saif came into my life. Now he's enjoying this phase in my life along with me. That makes this phase even more special. The only thing I miss is time with my family and Saif. When I finish this schedule I head straight to Venice for Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakht Ishq.

Are you and Saif doing a lot of endorsements together?
We're offered a lot of endorsements. But we are not doing any except a shampoo brand. But we'll soon be signing on for endorsements. And we're doing another film for Ashtavinayak. That starts in April 2009. We want it to be a fast and furious action film. Something larger-than-life. Saif is working very closely with the producers. He's trying to lock in on the script and director.

You've changed so much in appearance and behavior?
Ha, that's what you think. I'm still the same. It's just that I'm so busy. I've been working constantly. On top of that, my house is being done up. There are a dozen things demanding my attention. I get 300 sms-es a day. I can't answer each one of them personally.
