In 2007 Katrina appeared in the hit movie Namastey London, wherein she starred as a British Indian alongside Akshay Kumar for the second time after the box office dud Humko Deewana Kar Gaye. She then worked on a series of box office hits that include Apne, Partner and Welcome. 2007 saw her play a negative role for the first time in Abbas-Mustan's hit action thriller Race. V-Day Sp: Sizzling Couples in Love
Wednesday, 11 February 2009
Katrina's role has nothing to do with Sonia Gandhi
"It (Katrina's character) has nothing to do with either the life or political career of Sonia Gandhi", Jha said in Bhopal, where he is shooting “Rajneeti”.
There have been media reports that the movie was based on the life and career of Sonia Gandhi and that the character played by Katrina bears an uncanny resemblance to her.
Meanwhile, Prakash Jha also said on Tuesday that he would contest the Lok Sabha elections from Bettiah constituency in West Champaran district of Bihar.
Talking to reporters, Jha said this time he would not contest as an independent candidate but in all probability for some political party.
"I contested the previous Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate but now I will be in fray as a candidate of some political party," he said.
On which party he would contest from, Jha said that he enjoyed good relations with everyone in Bihar, be it Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) supremo Ram Vilas Paswan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as well as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s L.K. Advani and it is yet to be decided for which party he would contest.
"I am in constant touch with my people in Bihar for the past five years and regularly serving them. As such, the party for which I contest is immaterial. However, it is certain that I will contest for that party which will talk about development and serving people in the real sense", he said.
Katrina Kaif to talk in Hindi
It’s going to be fun to watch Katrina Kaif in Prakash Jha’s Rajniti.
We hear, Katrina’s role in this movie has been inspired by Sonia Gandhi, while Ranbir Kapoor’s role seems to be inspired by Rajiv Gandhi. Now, if Kat is going to be a political personality, too, she obviously is required to deliver long speeches to crowds, and that’s going to pose a great challenge to the actress.
For this, we are told, Kaif has been attending voice modulation classes. Let’s hope she can get rid of that English twang soon.

Salman & Katrina's V-day plans
Sorry guys ‘n’ dolls. I’ve just met a ‘crab’ who ain’t gonna scurry off the beach when the tide ebbs.
Or when predators and rivals challenge her turf. Katrina Kaif is one Cancerian who’ll use those claws to good defense. So be it Deepika’s innocuous remarks that upset her, or a so-called cold war with Asin. Or even her relationship status with Salman Khan – Katz simply smiles that lovely moony smile, speaks sensitive words of diplomacy and snaps your head off. So, read between the lines here dahlings – it’s a Katrina kayo!
So now you’re topping media popularity polls even — at par with Tendulkar and Co.?
Yes! A news channel has nominated me ‘Indian of The Year’ on the same platform as Sachin Tendulkar and some other big names. It’s a nice feeling. Great to know you’re there on the popularity charts, especially when it is the media and the public voting for you. In an industry based on relationships — where the best of friendships can go wrong, one can’t be popular and liked by all. So, this is even more special!
Deepika had said that you’re ‘her senior’. An ‘ouch’ remark?
Look, when you get neck deep into work there’s no room for rivalry. There’s place for all because there’s so much quality work all around. I like to give 100 per cent to my work. But I’m an emotional person, so all this unhealthy, idle gossip affects my health. Luckily the diversity of cinema today ensures that everyone has different kinds of movies. I’m doing movies with actors like Ranbir, John and, of course, my one annual biggie with Akshay. So there’s a sense of balance. As far as Deepika is concerned, if we waste time on ‘what she said’ or ‘what he said’, then we’ll only stay caught up in that web. Problem is, that most actresses cannot be perceived as friends. I do give Deepika the benefit of doubt. I’m sure it was a well-meaning statement!
Vibes between you and Asin don’t seem to be warm either. Going by reports that you landed up in Chandigarh (where she was filming with Salman) just to give her the ‘cold Katz’ treatment?
Oh my God! That was such a funny story. Asin is lovely and I’m happy Salman is working with her. But to clear the record, I went to Chandigarh on a personal visit and did not even go on Asin’s sets. This was all hot-controversy with no fire. Leave alone cold vibes.
Another bane of top actresses is a glut of clones ‘n’ comparisons. Now there are several Katrina ‘lookalikes’...
I take it as a compliment when people start using you as the benchmark to rate others. Then people say ‘Oh, this one looks like you, Oh that one looks like you’. I think it’s unfair to any girl to be compared to someone who’s already there. It puts the heavier burden, of them having to live up to expectations better suited to somebody else. Though, frankly, I don’t think that any of the girls compared to me are remotely similar to me.
There seems to be a catfight on between you and Priyanka. Some issue over top billing at an awards performance?
This is all baseless imagination of some gossip-mongers. My track for the event was decided a long time ago and everything was already cast in stone. I’ve known the show organisers, the Moranis, for sometime now; and they’re some of the most straightforward people in this business. So sorry guys, no catfight between Priyanka and me!
Rumour has it that your relationship with Salman is headed for permanency. He’s supposedly buying you a home on Valentine’s Day?
I must say that, according to media, Salman seems to be in some generous mood. He’s supposed to be buying me a place; supposedly buying Asin a place... It’s hilarious. Though the truth is, I don’t think that he’s buying any house — for her or me.
What’s your Valentine’s Day plan? Any special event with Salman?
Yes! Salman and I have plans on V-day. Unfortunately, not together. I’m shooting a song in Turkey with Rajkumar Santoshi; while Salman is shooting for Veer in northern India. Unless he plans to surprise me, of course!

Kat & Ranbir: Dance Pe Chance
Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif had a tough time on the sets of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani, which also stars Salman Khan in a cameo. Trouble started when Ranbir and Katrina found it difficult to perform a few complex dance steps by choreographer Ahmed for the song Follow me.
Both Ranbir and Katrina asked Ahmed to change the steps, but Ahmed stood his ground. Director Santoshi didn’t interfere. A source on the sets said, “While Ranbir was not getting a large part of his steps right, Katrina had trouble with a few steps given to her. Although Ranbir and Katrina put in a lot of effort, they failed to follow the instructions.”
“To be fair, the steps were not at all easy as the song is a fast one,” our source added.Ahmed confirmed the story and said, “I didn’t want to change a single move. Rap songs primarily have close-up shots but this song mostly has long shots.”
Ahmed isn’t the first choreographer to have differences with actors. Fortunately, after practice over three long days, Ranbir and Katrina eventually got their steps right. Ahmed said, “Finally, Ranbir and Katrina came out with flying colours. You will see the results on-screen.

Kareena, Katrina and Yana to dance at beauty pageant
"There will be a mix of beauty, talent and glamour at the finale of the pageant, with Bollywood beauties shaking a leg with the participants; it will be an evening to remember," host Deepak Tijori said at the press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Deepak's Tijori Entertainment is hosting the show with Kaleidovision.
The 20 finalists will go through a 10-day grilling regime.
"Training is not going to be a cakewalk for them. They will have to go through a tough and hectic regime of around 14 hours a day, which means they cannot take it easy," said Mehar Bhasin, who will look after the grooming of the contestants.
"The finalists will undergo an exclusively designed training and grooming regime that includes fitness, diction, psyche, aptitude, hair and make-up sessions. The training will enhance their confidence not only for the finale, but for further rounds to be held on the international stage as well," she added.
Beauty expert Blossom and Samantha Kochhar will take care of their beauty and hair, while fitness tips will be given by model-turned-actors Milind Soman and Rahul Dev.
Designer duo Rahul and Rohit Gandhi of the label Cue will design cocktail and evening wears for the participant. Madhu Jain and Milind Soman of the label M will design Indian traditional wear for the grand finale.
What makes this pageant different from other beauty pageants is the fact that even short girls may take part.
Tijori said: "This pageant is not restricted by banalities like physical shortcomings; the absence of height criteria and swim suit rounds makes it different from the conventional pageants.
"Majority of the Indian girls do not match the height criteria of other beauty pageants. Though they might have oodles of talent one shortcoming ruins all their chances of applying there. We understood this thing and came with a concept that will cheer up many beautiful and talented girls all over India."
Miss India Worldwide started 17 years ago and the contestants were primarily selected from the Indian diaspora. But it was felt that the pageant without a participant from India would be incomplete.
Then Tijori Entertainment and Kaleidovision took its franchisee from the Indian Festival Committee (IFC), a pioneer organisation conducting Indian pageants and fashion shows, in the US and worldwide.

Showbiz 24X7
First Look: The Star Screen Awards is Barabar Mori's first appearance in India. Isn't she a stunner? Looks like she and Suzanne are good friends. The guy with her is also cute.
Blue, Blue: Hard Kaur and Tabu are wearing very similar gowns in different shades of blue. Kaur's is a bright sky blue while Tabu's is electric. We think both look electrifying
Visions in White: Kangana and Jaya Bachchan look beautiful and elegant in their heavy white sarees. This is the first time Kangana is wearing a saree, now that her figure has filled up
Red Divas: Katrina and Priyanka sparkled in red gowns. Both are so sexy, it is hard to pick one
Shimmering Star: After her smooth moves in RNBDJ, Anushka made her stage dancing debut. All jazzed up for the stage, this is the first time she is seen in a midriff baring outfit. And she is a lot thinner than hari bhari Punjabi kudi Taani.
Sweet Nothings: Arshad Warsi is whispering something into Priyanka's ears.

Katrina-Ranbir's late night outing
So what did we hear about their respective partners?
That Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif met up for a late dinner at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on January 11. They are said to have arrived separately but dined together in a private setting. They were reported to be in a relaxed and chatty mood.
The duo is co-starring in two movies and their growing closeness has reportedly already upset Ranbir’s girl, Deepika, leading to some tiffs between them in the recent past.
So wonder what she’d say to this one?

Katrina found Ranbir too skinny
They will be seen together in not one but two films - Raj Kumar Santoshi's “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani” and Prakash Jha's “Rajniti”.
The actors bonded well on the sets, and it seems they find each other’s company extremely comfortable.
Recently, a publication in India even took them out on a date and you bet they bonded like the best of pals.
However, when Katrina first learned she'd be working with Ranbir, her reaction was that he is too thin and he must put on weight. Not surprising, considering Katrina has by now worked with most of the hunks in Bollywood.

‘A girl doesn’t look for six-packs in men’
SOS friends! Hurricane Katrina is here. Sweeping through hearts of men, women and youth alike. She’s the storm and she’s the siren. Yes! Katz
is making mercury rise like never before – with hot films, a soaring fan following and an army of young supporters that are making the hottie a formidable storm to weather.
No wonder I wore my shining armour and decided to chat with this vibrant, sassy, beautiful lass with the incredible smile about Salman, SRK and more. But I came away feeling (and smiling) like Akshay Kumar in Welcome — in need of rescuing by a sensitive Cancerian beauty.
So Katz, your P.S. to success is already being written — criticism ... now people say you look ‘too perfect’!
Frankly, I feel a little imperfection makes for an almost perfect face, like Madhubala and Madhuri who look so charming and real. I think someone like Claudia Schiffer looks too perfect, while Cindy Crawford’s small imperfections make her more likeable.
Hey now! Aishwarya is considered a ‘perfect’ beauty...
I think Aishwarya is extremely talented. I like the way she conducts herself. I enjoy her movies and I think she is an icon of Indian cinema. I think Aishwarya is cool.
Your Dubai tour with SRK was a big success. However we’re second-guessing about your dosti with King Khan himself?
I have a very high respect for him, though I don’t know him very well. He’s a big star and I was delighted he came for my party. He speaks very little and is extremely polite, shy and charming. Since I’ve not done any movies with him, I guess it’ll take me a while to get to know him; unlike Akshay with whom I have done four movies and share an incredible rapport.
Akki-pairing equals lucky-pairing, right?
Yes! We’ve been very lucky together. Akshay Kumar is a fantastic co-star. He’s been one of the best actors to learn from; and the best thing is that he’s so humble and down-to-earth. With greater success he’s changed even more positively. I have an amazing comfort level with him.
And what of your beautiful relationship with Salman?
What can I say about Salman? I’ve known him forever. He’s one of the most generous human beings I’ve met. I take his advice for everything. He either likes you or you don’t exist for him. I’m a private person who believes in keeping my innermost feelings away from public view. Salman shows whatever he wants to; but he has a heart of gold.
And who has the best male physique today?
If I want to be politically correct I can say all our heroes have good bodies today. Everyone looks good because all of them work hard on their bodies. One of the first was Salman. And it is always tough to maintain a good body for so long. Akshay also has one of the finest lean and tough bodies. Aamir has developed a great physique. This is remarkable because it’s tougher to build such a body and maintain it after a certain age. But, frankly, what a girl looks for in a man are not his six-packs, his looks, or his age difference – it’s just his kindness and his charm that win women over.

Katrina not satisfied with what she’s done so far
"I think I have yet to do a great comic role. I have done a lot of comedy films but I don't think I have done an out and out comic role," she told IANS.
According to Katrina, her character in "Namastey London" was kind of funny but not a real comic role. "I still haven't really done a comedy yet," she said.

John Abraham and Katrina Kaif in 'New York' Trailer
Actually the film is about three friends, John, Katrina and Neil, who live a carefree fun loving college life that revolves around the three of them. Everything is fine until the world is changed forever with the horrific events of September 11, 2001. The friend's lives are flipped upside down as the film investigates the touchy subject of what happened, or may have happened to Muslims living in America in the days and weeks after 9/11. In fact the trailer shows the intensity of the film with John locked up and curled into a ball naked in jail.
Now word is that due to the history between John Abraham and Katrina Kaif's boyfriend Salman Khan (the two are known to be on cold terms and do not get along) as well as the history between Katrina Kaif and John Abraham's girlfriend Bipasha Basu (it was reported the two shared cold vibes on the sets of 'Race') that John Abraham and Katrina Kaif would not get along either. Thank goodness that wasn't the case! The two got along like a house on fire! Hmmm... we're pretty sure that didn't please their respective partners very much! Oh the Bollywood drama!
Any how, watch the trailer for 'New York' below and tell us your thoughts on a Bollywood making a film about such a sensitive topic.

Katrina voted Sexiest Asian Woman; also most searched person on Google
Last week, Katrina was voted the 'Sexiest Asian Woman' for the year 2008 in a poll conducted by Eastern Eye, a well read publication in the U.K. Last year's winner Bipasha Basu has now been pushed to the second spot. Just as accolades started pouring in for this feat, Katrina was in for yet another piece of good news.
Katrina features among the Top 10 in 3 different categories in Google's 2008 India Zeitgeist lists, a compilation of most searched terms on the internet released every year. While Katrina tops the 'Most Popular Bollywood Celebrity' category, she figures at No.3 in the 'Fast Rising Searches' category and at No.10 in the 'Most Popular Searches' category. In fact she is the only 'person' to feature in the Top 10 'Most Popular Searches' category which otherwise features topics as diverse as Cricket to Indian Railways.
A source close to Katrina said, "Katrina's popularity is catching up with the masses in a big way. People are mesmerized by her beauty. Several of her fans have kept Kats' pics as screensavers and wallpapers. Her smile, they say, is like an oasis in a desert. It helps them feel relaxed when they feel down at work."
Katrina obviously is thrilled at this turn of developments. "I have to thank my fans for their constant love and support. I just don't know what else to say. Frankly I'm overwhelmed."
