Madhuri Dixit Biography :

Madhuri Dixit (Marathi: माधुरी दीक्षित) (born Madhuri Shankar Dixit on May 15, 1967) is an Indian Bollywood actress. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, she dominated Hindi cinema as a leading actress and an accomplished dancer. Appearing in numerous commercial successes and delivering a myriad of critically-acclaimed performances, Dixit has established herself as one of the most respected and prominent female actors in Bollywood. In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, by the Government of India.

Madhuri Dixit is a native of Mumbai, India. She was born Madhuri Shankar Dixit to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit, of a Marathi Chitpavan Brahmin family. Dixit attended Divine Child High School and Parle College and wanted to be a micro-biologist. She is an accomplished Kathak dancer and trained for eight years.

Madhuri Dixit made her acting debut in Abodh (1984). After a few minor and supporting roles, she landed the lead female role in Tezaab (1988), which shot her to stardom, and for which she received her first Filmfare nomination. She then starred in a number of hits that included Ram Lakhan (1989), Parinda (1989), Tridev (1989), and Kishen Kanhaiya (1990).

In 1990, Dixit starred in Indra Kumar's romantic-drama Dil, alongside Aamir Khan. She played the role of Madhu Mehra, a rich and spoiled young girl who falls in love with Raja, played by Khan, and later leaves her house in order to marry him. The film became one of the biggest box-office hits of the year in India, and Dixit's performance earned her the first Filmfare Best Actress Award of her career.

She followed Dil with another line of hits, including Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun! (1994), and Raja (1995). Dixit's performance in Beta, that of a woman married to an illiterate, well-meaning man who exposes her scheming mother-in-law, won her a second Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun! became one of the biggest grossers ever in the history of Hindi cinema. It went on to collect over Rs. 650 million in India and over Rs. 150 million overseas, and won Dixit her third Filmfare Best Actress Award. In that same year, Dixit was also nominated in the same category for her performance in Anjaam, which won her critical acclaim.

After an unsuccessful year in 1996, Dixit appeared as Pooja in Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). The film was a major national success, both critically and commercially, and Dixit won her fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award. In that same year, Dixit starred in Prakash Jha's critically acclaimed Mrityudand. The film was known for straddling the boundary between a commercial and an art film. It won the Best Feature Film award at the Cinéma Tout Ecran in Geneva and the Bangkok Film Festival. Dixit's performance in the film landed her the Best Actress award at the annual Star Screen Awards.

Does Billu spell bad luck? Sharman is giving away 1 crore and feast your eyes on Deepika, Madhuri and Sonam.

Billu Bad Idea? Astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts that the movie will not do well.
"Originally the title of 'Billu Barber' added up to No.29 (2 ) which is also not a positive number but it is one of SRK's best numbers & would have done some damage control. But by now just calling the film 'Billu' is going to 'cut' down the film's prospects ( pun unintended ) further!. 'Billu' now adds up to No.15 (6). Generally, No.6 is harmless but the octave 15 of No.6 does not have a lasting effect & is often bad for people who are born on dates 4 & 8. The producer of the film Gauri Khan, is a No.8 (8th Oct.). Also No.6 represents Venus – the planet of love, peace, harmony etc. To call 'Billu' - a love story would be inappropriate," says Bhavikk

Well, ZOOM’s lavish Mumbai premiere of Danny Boyle’s Oscar nominee was indeed a million dollar opportunity for our photogs.

Madhuri back in town for Sankranti

Makar Sankranti, for Maharashtrians, is spent at home.

And that is what Madhuri Dixit did yesterday in Mumbai. Bollywood’s original Dhak-Dhak girl is in the city with sons Arian and Ryan.
She’s here to shoot a commercial; Makar Sankranti was part of the fringe benefits of this trip. At her Juhu home, Madhuri discovered that her boys were no longer camera-shy. Happily, they posed for pictures. “They were shy earlier because they were too young to understand anything,” she said.

The religious customs over, Mads and kids stuffed themselves with Maharashtrian delicacies prepared for the festival by her mother and mother-in-law (who accompanied them down from the US). Husband Dr Sriram Nene too had come, but yesterday he was back in the US, where it is winter at their home in Denver. “The kids love to play in the snow,” said Madhuri. “It’s lovely there but I think they need to learn about Indian culture and traditions as well. They must know where I come from, they ought to meet the families back here, study Marathi and Hindi, the minds are receptive at this stage — whatever they grasp will be with them for life.”

She talked about the Golden Globes and A R Rahman’s success at the awards. Madhuri had worked with the music composer in Pukar. Of Slumdog Millionaire, the actress said, “It’s a moment of pride for all of us. It’s certainly a big thing, because it’s opening a lot more doors for our films there.” Bollywood, Madhuri added, had stopped taking baby steps, it is right there in the west now — making news.

“Curiosity about India and Bollywood is big time there. People I meet, even my husband’s friends, are curious about our cinema and our culture. It’s beautiful to see this evolution.” What was also thrilling for Madhuri was that there’s a new form of dance called Bollywood dance in the West. “And this is not just among the Indian population,” she exclaimed. Meanwhile, the failure of her comeback film Aaje Nacchle last year has not discouraged the actress from dreaming of a return to Bollywood. “Offers pour in every day, but the one that will sweep me off my feet is yet to come.Till then I am happy looking after my kids and my home. It’s a different high,” she said.

Madhuri Dixit-Nene and her kids at the Kite Festival

Madhuri Dixit to attend College Festival

Former Bollywood superstar Madhuri Dixit is the chief guest at the Sixteen: Nine International Film Festival of Usha Pravin Gandhi College in Vile Parle, Mumbai.

A source from UPG confirms, "Madhuri Dixit is coming to give away the awards on the 13th of January which is the finale of the 2-day film festival."

Along with Madhuri Dixit, hottie Imran Khan, producers Sanjay Gupta and Ravi Chopra, director Goldie Behl and veteran actress Shabana Azmi will also give away some awards, according to the official website of the festival. Directors Aziz Mirza and Anurag Kashyap will inaugurate the festival. Hard Kaur will perform at the finale.

Aamir Khan was the Chief Guest at the festival last year and gave away the prizes in different categories. He said he doesn't attend award ceremonies but this was different as it was done by students and he couldn't say no because he was a student of Narsee Monjee (NM) College. He promised he would keep himself free this year as well to attend the festival. Unfortunately, that has not happened because he is busy shooting for Raju Hirani's 3 Idiots in Bangalore. He will be coming to Bombay today for a few hours to attend the Ghajini success party and to wish nephew Imran whose birthday is on 13 January.

Madhuri Dixit is currently in town with her family and she was also the Guest of Honour at the International Kite Festival held at The Club in Andheri, Mumbai on Sunday.

This film festival is the property of Usha Pravin Gandhi College in Vile Parle. Now in its second year, it showcases short films, documentaries and other films made by budding filmmakers from all across the globe. Seminars on different aspects of cinema are held by experts from those fields during the course of the two day event. The finale comprises the awards distribution and a musical performance.
